Matteri is a unique vineyard in the far North of Yamhill Carlton devoted solely to Pinot Noir. It sits alone on a South-facing ridge, isolated at 550 feet of elevation. Robert Matteri first planted here in 2011 and our blocks consist of Dijon 115, which is praised for its round, supple tannins and exotic aromatics. The Coastal Mountains provide a pronounced rain-shadow effect at Matteri, making this a cool, dry and wind-swept vineyard with a long growing season. The result is concentrated fruit with small clusters and thick skins providing intensity and structure.

The 2018 Matteri was fermented between French oak barrels and concrete with 35% whole cluster inclusion then aged for 16 months in 40% new French Oak. Site and clone come together in a firm and powerful wine, full of black fruits, rose petal, exotic spices, leather, dried citrus and tobacco. The palate is a blockbuster, alternating between bright fruit and concentrated minerality. The wine shows substantial structure, with the polished tannins indicating serious cellar potential.

93 pts. "The 2018 Pinot Noir Matteri Vineyard (35% whole clusters and 40% new oak) sports a translucent ruby hue to go with a juicy, Burgundian nose of red (and some black) fruits, forest floor, cedary spice, and earth. It's beautiful on the palate as well as and has a medium-bodied, crisp, focused, yet still pleasure-bent mouthfeel that carries good acidity as well as ripe tannins. Drink it over the coming decade."
