Shea Vineyard is located in the far East of Yamhill Carlton, on the border of Dundee Hills. Dick Shea first planted Pinot Noir in 1989 and has made the vineyard an icon with meticulous vineyard practice, sustainable farming and an array of clonal diversity. Shea is separated into two slopes by a small valley and our blocks are planted with the Wädenswil clone on the dramatically steep, east-facing hill. Wädenswil is a late ripening clone prized for its elegant rose petal aromatics, bright acidity and fine dance between power and finesse. The East Hill is perfectly suited for Wädenswil as it receives ample early morning sun and sees a long growing season, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly, developing deep character and complexity.

The 2018 Shea East Hill was fermented entirely in concrete with 15% whole clusters, helping to integrate tannin and provide texture, and then aged for 16 months in 30% new French oak barrels. The darker, brooding sibling of its West Hill brother, its color is indicative of what follows: dense black berries, forest floor, blood orange, dried flowers and sandalwood. The palate is dense and tightly-coiled, with ample, refined tannins and a long polished finish.

93 Pts. "The 2018 Pinot Noir Shea East Hill Heritage was mostly destemmed (15% stems) and spent 16 months in 30% new French oak, which is the norm for most of the Pinot Noirs. Lots of ripe strawberry and vanilla-laced cherry fruits as well as spice, honeycomb, and floral notes define the nose, and it's beautiful on the palate, with medium-bodied richness and silky, polished tannins. It benefits from air and has another 10-12 years of prime drinking ahead of it."
